Course Description

Past courses have covered an overview of walking as an artistic practice and walking as a way of reading and writing the city.

Every Sunday for six weeks the collaboratively guided course explores ideas and issues in walking while developing a participant authored public exhibition of walking work.

The class uses the city as text and laboratory, combining strategic walks with critical readings. Past courses have featured the works of Michel De Certeau, Walter Benjamin, Robert Walser, Janet Cardiff, Arthur Sidgwick, and Lucy Lippard among others. The course consists of reading, physical exercise, spatial exploration, the production of walks (walk essays), and discussion. Participants create 2 walks during the course.

The Walk Study Training Course is free of charge. However participants should commit to the full schedule of walks, so we can advance as a group.
